As many signs point to an opening for travel in 2021, Riviera Nayarit is preparing to welcome tourists with new offers, increased airline connectivity, outdoor experiences and more. As Mexico’s emerging beach destination offering 200 miles of pristine Pacific coastline, magical villages, natural sanctuaries and luxurious resort hotel accommodations, there are the main reasons travelers opt for a relaxing but safe getaway.
«We hope that 2021 will be the year of travel, after so many people were confined at home and missed the opportunity to venture, especially internationally, in 2020,» said Marc Murphy, managing director of the CVB of the Riviera Nayarit. «With an increase in hotel capacity limits, more airline connectivity, new hotel openings and security measures, we are ready to welcome returning travelers.»
Opening of new hotels
Riviera Nayarit expanded its list of hotels in the region with the opening of the Conrad Punta de Mita, on September 1, with 324 suites. It is the first resort of the Conrad brand in Mexico, and the second in the country.
Also, on November 1, the highly anticipated One & Only Mandarina debuted with 104 villas and 54 private houses. He is among the first to have One & Only residences in the world and will soon include a world-class Mandarin Polo and Horse Club. In November 2021, Auberge Resorts Collection will open the ultra-luxurious property of 59 Heart Whisper suites in Punta de Mita, while the 415-room Dreams Punta de Mita Resort & Spa and the 200-room Secrets Punta de Mita Resort & Spa will also open in the second quarter of the year. The first all-inclusive Delta by Marriott resort will also arrive at Riviera Nayarit in 2021, completely reopening and transforming the previous Grand Matlali Hills Resort & Spa, located on the hillside in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
Socially distant experiences and encounters with animals
With miles of deserted beaches. and a lush countryside to enjoy the fresh air, Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit is an ideal destination for social estating. From mountain biking through lush jungle and surfing on beautiful beaches or enjoying a private bird watching tour to see a variety of beautiful species, especially from October to March, Mexico’s Pacific coast has numerous options to enjoy activities comfortably and at a safe social distance.
One of the most impressive experiences takes place from December to March, when visitors can take a private tour to see the stunning whales as they migrate through the waters of the Riviera Nayarit between Tecuala and Banderas Bay to feed, mate or give birth.
Another way to reconnect with nature on the Riviera Nayarit is to camp in the uninhabited Isabel Island National Park. Accessible by boat from the coast of San Blas, Isabel Island Nature Reserve offers activities such as snorkeling, fishing, hiking, bird watching and more. For active travelers, the International Sailing Academy, based in the city of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, will offer a variety of private sailing lessons at different levels for children, teenagers and adults.
Extended stays and private accommodation
For those who want to extend their visit next year, the destination has several accommodations to choose from. At Four Seasons Punta Mita, guests can check into one of the property’s private residences, with airport transportation and a purchase credit (for stays of seven nights or more). The residences have three to five bedrooms, with full kitchens and private pools.
Another option is Imanta, an elegant boutique resort that features three-bedroom villas with private pools, as well as a number of sumptuous suites individually tucked away in the hills along the shore, creating a happily secluded paradise (one of the reasons celebrities love to stay here). Travelers can book their own private villa at the newly opened One&Only Mandarina, which has a collection of 104 villas and tree houses.
Mar al Cielo is another excellent private retreat set in 11 acres of jungle beachfront paradise, perfect for two people who dream of a lovely holiday. Families interested in relocating their remote education and working in paradise have several options with the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Conrad Punta de Mita, St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, and Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, which offer extended stay programs, fully equipped retreats and boardrooms with office space, and home education classes for the little ones.
Increased connectivity with airlines

Flights from Central and South America have restarted operations in Mexico City with convenient connections to Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport #PVR.
As one of the first destinations to receive the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travel Seal, the Riviera Nayarit is well prepared to welcome international and domestic travelers safely.
