The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, referred this Wednesday to what happened at the center of the National Children’s Service (Sename) of Talcahuano, Carlos Macera, where two young men were shot after shots fired by Carabineros inside the home.
“We are hurt by what has happened. It’s a fact of maximum gravity. The state is there to protect children and young people,” the secretary of state said.
In that line, he said that from the Government “we have requested the maximum information from all relevant authorities so that we can collect the information as soon as possible from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.” Along with this, he indicated that entities such as the Ombudsman’s Office were also contacted.
“The General Director (Mario Rozas) has initiated a summary investigation, which we ask him to be in a fairly limited time. We are the most interested in this being clarified as soon as possible,” Delgado added.
“The most important thing is an investigation with all the background in sight. Let’s first wait for the results of the investigation so we can clarify and determine responsibilities,” he said.
On the decision of President Sebastián Piñera, who cancelled his presence at a Carabineros ceremony, Delgado said that “the President had confirmed but was personally left to monitor the situation. He is talking to different authorities in the region to get the record as soon as possible.”
Situation of the wounded
Through a statement, Las Higueras Hospital reported the situation of the two young people who were injured, who are being cared for in the non-respiratory urgency of the care center.
“This is a 17-year-old with a serious injury from a bullet wound with projectile inlet and outlet in his left thigh and who must be surgically surgery; and a child under the age of 14 with a gunshot wound with a projectile inlet and outlet on his lower-gravity leg,” they report.
They also reported that there is an injured carabiner, who “has a shear wound and a fracture in one of his arms, his condition is stable and out of gravity.”
