translated from Spanish: SCT discusses help to prevent Interjet bankruptcy

The federal government and Interjet owners assess ways to prevent airline bankruptcy, the Secretary of Communications and Transportation (SCT) reported.
In appearance before the Infrastructure and Communications and Transport commissions of the Chamber of Deputies, Arganis Díaz-Leal explained that Interjet has a debit with the government of 2 thousand 568 million pesos, of which 1,200 are debts for payment of fuels to Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA).

“We are giving them facilities and trying to help the airline survive,” he told MPs. “The owners have to solve the problem also by contributing to their part so that it can get ahead, we are very concerned that Interjet would close proque would be another failure, but we also have to go together seeing the possibilities,” he added.
The sct holder said that this was part of the problem that caused the pandemic, and that creative measures should now be “sought together, all together to bring this situation forward”.
He said that up to 300 air operations were recorded daily before the pandemic, but because of the COVID crisis there were times when it was only 600.
“It is a grave concern for the secretariat that has happened with the country’s airlines. The decline was notable, they came to have in the first quarter of the year a reduction of up to 90% (of their operations),” he said.
Arganis Díaz-Leal said they have held talks with the National Airborne Chamber (Canaero) to offer support. An example was the discounts given by Mexico City International Airport (AICM) in the collection of airport services.

These were 100% in April and May; June 60%; 40% in July and August 20%.
Interjet started operations in 2005, and was founded and chaired by businessman Miguel Alemán Magnani. It began as a low-cost airline but, with the rise of its fleet, expanded its capacity and destinations.
Due to the pandemic the airline has suspended and cancelled flights on several occasions. On November 2nd, he reported that he would suspend all flights for lack of resources and to maintain his ships.
