In the 2015–16 season he was selected in the NBA All-Star Team. He has twice been voted NBA All-Star Game MVP (only in history in two consecutive editions: in 2015 and 2016), as well as a 9-time NBA All-Star. He was also a member of the U.S. basketball team with which he participated in the 2012 London Olympics, where he won the gold medal.
During the 2016–17 season, in which he was awarded the NBA Season MVP, he became the 2nd player in history to average a triple-double in a single season, alongside Oscar Robertson in 1961–62. He also broke the record for most triple-doubles in a season by getting 42. Until then he was 41 who had also imposed Robertson. In the 2017–18 season he became the first player in NBA history to achieve a triple-double against each of the 29 opposing teams. On April 2, 2019, he became the second NBA player to achieve a triple-double “double” with 20 points, 20 rebounds and 21 assists, in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers, joining Wilt Chamberlain who got it in 1968, with 22 points, 25 rebounds and 21 assists. Already in 2018-19, Russell repeats the feat and manages to average triple-double throughout the season, achieving this for the third consecutive year.
