Fluvial returns from 9 to 12 December via streaming from Valdivia. While this 2020 premise will be the importance of assessing the heritage of the cultures originating in each territory and the global environmental alert, the conference and festival will have various activities in which it will delve into different edges of the music industry, with a training program and panels, business instances for professionals and, of course, concerts.
Fluvial Music
This year, Fluvial prepared a curator in tune with one of its three pillars: First Nations. For this, Chilemúsica, the sector brand created by IMICHILE and ProChile that promotes the Chilean music industry abroad, presents a showcase specially prepared for the event with Chilean-Mapuche collaborations.
One of these concerts will be by Víctor Cifuentes, a multidisciplinary artist who expresses Mapuche culture in the L (traditional singing) and ancestral instruments with Fran Straube, who with his Rubio project has managed to stand out in Chile and abroad. Another will be that of Sofia Painiqueo, with a long history as a singer-songwriter and performer of the kultrún, the trompe and the kaskahuilla, who will be this time with Javiera Parra, who is fulfilling 25 years of a solid solo career full of successes. The outstanding integral mapuche artist Faumelisa Manquepillan who cultivates craftsmanship, singing and poetry, will perform with Fernando Milagros, who with 15 years of solo career and 6 studio albums has assembled a woven pop of native American traditions increasingly hypnotic and transdisciplinary.
The Fluvial showcase will star Subhira Cuarteto who has released 22 albums, the last of which is the live record Subhira Cuarteto at Santuario Sónico 2018. Also by Camila y Silvio, whose proposal takes root in folklore in a fresh interpretation of traditional genres from the Andean regions, reflected in their first LP of 2019 On the edge of the night. The third in this showcase are Himodamia, a Valdivian fusion band with elements of progressive rock, jazz and electronic music and whose debut EP, Mode 1 CR004 was released in 2019.
In the Arrhythmia showcase will be Paulopulus, a music DJ who edited his Shamanic Ep in 2019 with collaborations and remixes by prominent Chilean artists and producers. Also Foex, producer and founder of Potoco Discos and who currently prepares his sixth solo album, entitled Héctor Gallardo that will be released during the first months of 2021. Close this trio DJ Perez, a recurring name of the national hip hop, a member of Mind Sabia Crú and who, as a soloist, has edited Mono Blanco (2018) and Big Bang (2020).
In the showcase that will be presented by Concepción Bio Bio Creativo, garay Palma will perform Syndicate of Scammers, a new penquista group with Music of Lies their newly released album this year where they explore downtempo, sampledelia and dub. In addition there will be Carlita Ampuero, which offers an electronic pop proposal that can be heard in her latest single “Me Desprendo”. Finally, it adds La Julia Smith, who has been cultivating pop rock and sicodelia for 10 years and who this year premiered Quarentena EP his fourth studio work.
In the showcase #NUEVOMOAI: The New Rapa Nui Music will present Amahiro that fuses the traditional music of the island with contemporary rhythms. It is followed by the women’s group Tau Mata Kuku with a loudness based on electric guitar and ukulele. To end with Aka, instrumental quartet of indigenous psychoexperimental music.
