Mexico City.-During 2019, nearly 3.3 million children and adolescents were in child labour in Mexico as reported in the National Survey of Child Labour (ENTI) released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). Reportedly, that 3.3 million children and young people between the ages of 5 and 17 make up 11.3% of the total number of children aged that age at 28.5 million.

As for the total number of child workers, 2 million were carrying out market activities, while 1.3 million were engaged in domestic activities. For her part, the Secretary of Labour and Social Security, María Luisa Mayor indicated the importance of the survey, noting that the data to be highlighted is the significant reduction of unalted child labour that was reduced by 2.5% since 2017.It also highlighted the reduction of child labour in the agricultural sector with 17.5% which meant that 125 thousand 078 children , children and adolescents will abandon activities considered dangerous. As for the states that showed the highest percentage of children in child labour, it was the state of Oaxaca with 21.5, followed by Puebla and Chiapas with 18.3.While the lowest state was Mexico City and Baja California with 5.4% and 5.3%.
