Over the years Fortnite has added more and more elements and graphic improvements that in turn slightly climbed the hardware floor needed to run it. That’s why Epic Games has just released a Performance Mode for the game, which significantly improves performance on less powerful machines, allowing players to have an experience on par with the rest.” The performance mode, available in the alpha phase, can be chosen through the in-game settings menu and delivers better performance by sacrificing visual quality to decrease memory usage and lighten CPU and GPU load,” says the official announcement.

The new mode is only available on PC, of course, and will be enabled with today’s update, and those using older or less powerful computers will see a message when they run the game inviting them to activate it. However, those who want to enable or disable it can do so from the settings menu. However, the study recommends some additional requirements to improve performance even with Performance Mode enabled, particularly on PCs that do not have a dedicated video board. Epic Games explains: “For users with older computers, they will be able to make the game better fit in memory and reduce overall setbacks and irregularities if they run it from an SSD or with 6 GB or more of RAM.”

In addition, today’s update will also offer the option to remove textures in high resolution, to reduce the weight of the game on the hard drive and help improve performance. Within the installation options it is possible to disable textures and thus save 14GB of space. “Performance mode is possible by decreasing visual quality in the game to increase frame rate and is a great way for users to participate and experience the game as long as they meet Fortnite’s system specifications. Along with the option to uninstall high-resolution textures, players will now be able to enter faster than ever and continue to enjoy the game as planned.” With Performance Mode enabled and textures at 720p, Epic Games saw an improvement of nearly 200% on machines with integrated video board, good news for players who are using older systems or even for those parents who don’t want their children to play on the main PC.
