translated from Spanish: The outdoors as an object of desire

In mid-October, a group of well-known scientists published a letter in the journal Science urging public health authorities to be angry about the health recommendation to do as much of everyday, outdoor activities as possible and improve the ventations of enclosed spaces. In turn, in our country, the Ministry of Health indicated that 73.3% of outbreaks originate within households, either in social gatherings or by the people with which they live. Therefore, and in addition to the indication of the beginning of this week where the Metropolitan Region is back in phase 2, the call to enhance activities in open spaces is reinforced, along with being cautious when interacting with people who do not live with us, to continue to respect the physical estating and the use of mask.
The proposal these days should be to take advantage of the good weather and be creative, because of the few certainties we have today is that officially the outdoors is the safest place we can be. The year is over, now is when kindergartens and schools have to be prepared from all dimensions to welcome children in their courtyards or in properly ventilated rooms in 2021. Today private or public open spaces can be the best allies against the Covid-19, and tomorrow in the face of traditional winter viruses.
The invitation is to use ingenuity, to innovate, to look for non-traditional ways of educating, sharing and working. The end of the year is coming, and it will be different, the celebrations should be much more intimate and in a different format, because the call is to continue to care for those we love most and those who are most unprotected from the pandemic. For some it will be easy to have a family Christmas outdoors as it is enough to go out to the courtyard or find yourself in a park or square near the neighborhood, but for others it is an impossible mission.
Thus, the pandemic transformed the open air into an object of desire, which only reinforces a reality that is undeniable: open public spaces are the meeting place par excellence, the difficult thing is to meet the great demand that already existed and that has only intensified with the pandemic. Public spaces are becoming increasingly important every day, however, the differences between communes in terms of accessibility of places and quality parks for citizens are still common. Therefore, with and without Covid-19 it is a challenge that we cannot defer.
