translated from Spanish: Matías Goyenechea, constituent candidate for district 8: “In the New Constitution we must move to a Universal Public Health System”

At the Hospital El Carmen de Maipú, Matías Goyenechea’s candidacy for the Constitutional Convention was officially launched by District 8, territory comprising the communes of Cerrillos, Colina, Estación Central, Lampa, Pudahuel, Quilicura, Tiltil and Maipú.
A political scientist, economics expert, public health master of the University of Chile and president of the “Creating Health” Foundation, Matías Goyenechea has promoted throughout his career a health system based on universality, equality, solidarity and gratuitousness.
His candidacy is supported by several social health organizations, such as Fenpruss (University Professionals) and Ancosalud (Public Health Users), and is supported by former health minister Soledad Barría, the Academic of the School of Public Health of the U of Chile, Cristóbal Cuadrado, as well as the deputies of Social Convergence Gonzalo Winter and Gabriel Boric.
“In the New Constitution we must move forward in gaining protection of the universal right to health, considering the right to health care, i.e. promotion, prevention, healing and rehabilitation; under conditions that guarantee their access, availability, financial protection, acceptability and quality, through a Universal Public Health System,” he said.
“A second dimension is the right to a healthy environment,” he said. “And a third pillar must be the democratic participation of the population in the health system and environments, the center of which is collective well-being over individual enrichment,” he added.
