The name Ignacio Briones sounds like the possible presidential letter inside Evópoli, after Felipe Kast’s name was discarded by himself by leaving aside the race for La Moneda.
This was stated by the president of the official party, Andrés Molina, who told La Tercera that “for us it would be extremely good and a pride if Ignacio Briones agreed to be the presidential candidate.”
“He reflects us in the way we think policy has to be done. In the conversations we’ve had, it gave us the impression that it would be available,” he added.
It should be mentioned that for this decision there are two weeks left, since on January 30th the general council of Evópoli will be held, where the names inside the collective will be discussed and evaluated.
Other names that resonate within the party include Transport Minister Gloria Hutt; Evópoli’s chief banker, Luciano Cruz-Coke and House Vice President Francisco Undurraga.
Ignacio Briones, who would be available to be the standard-bearer of the collective, according to some sources, would soon have to resign from the ministry and it would be another blow to Piñera, who would lose – at a bad time – his Secretary of State in charge of the tax wallet.
This Saturday the senator for La Araucanía and presidential exrecandidato, Felipe Kast, abandoned the presidential race that already unraged in the interior of Chile Vamos with names such as Mario Desbordes, Sebastián Sichel, Joaquín Lavín and Evelyn Matthei.
Kast argued that there is a need to “open up spaces for new leadership to unfold” and continue the challenge of “oxygenating politics.”
