The Seventh Court of Guarantee of Santiago oversized former Interior Minister Gonzalo Blumel and former Director General of Carabineros, Mario Rozas, for a police espionage complaint.
The lawsuit was filed after the report “PacoLeaks”, published by Interference last year. It revealed an intelligence report of Carabineros – disseminated from a massive hacking of documents – that refers to an espionage work in one act by the “International Day of the Missing Detainee and Detention”, carried out in units of the University of Chile.
” (It is not) typical of the work of the Carabineros police to spy on individuals and members of civil society. Our legislation is very clear that such behaviors must be sanctioned,” said the plaintiffs, made up of the president of the Group of Relatives of Missing Detainees (AFDD), Lorena Pizarro, and nine other leaders and authorities of the University of Chile.
The security judge, Carolina Guajardo, dismissed the lawsuit on the grounds that Blumel had “no involvement” and that she was not an interior minister when the event occurred, El Mercurio states.
