Mexico. – A police film by Alonso Ruizpalacios, he took the Silver Bear for Best Artistic Contribution, an award given to Yibrán Asuad for his editing in the feature film.
Yibrán previously worked with Ruizpalacios in Museo, and also has among his credits several more films such as Sanctorum, All the freckles of the world or I am no longer here. He started as a director with El Caco and was in charge of All the Freckles of the World, in which he was also a writer and producer, as well as directing several chapters of The House of Flowers.
The feature film “A Cup Movie”, a story between documentary and fiction whose world premiere was at the Berlinale, takes the back of police impunity in Mexico and stars actors Monica Del Carmen and Raúl Briones.
“As an innovative documentary and narrative experiment, ‘A Police Movie’ immerses the viewer in an unusual space. The film puts the spotlight on the police, one of the most controversial institutions in Mexico and the world,” Mexican production company No Fiction said on its website. “A Police Movie,” an original Netflix film, marks Ruizpalacios’ return to the Berlin Film Festival, after he won the Golden Bear for Best Prime Opera at the 2014 Berlinale with “Goeros” and that he won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay for his last film “Museum” in 2018.

Ruizpalacios’ film was the only film in Latin America among the 15 films from 16 countries that competed in the official section for the Golden Bear, the festival’s jackpot.
