Either he read only the headline, or the character is playing a bad trick on him, or all the previous ones. During Monday’s balance sheet, Health Minister Enrique Paris, together with announcing new changes to the Step-by-Step Plan – which left more than 14 million Chileans quarantined and more than 6,000 new contagions – employed an “electronic diary” – uninfided – for “misrepresenting” information.
“The positivity of the PCR at the metropolitan region level is 7% and we have noticed a slow decrease in the 7 days. 75,880 PCRs have been performed. So far, at the national level, 10,644,892 PCR exams have been performed. We are leaders in Latin America,” he said as he opened Monday’s long-awaited balance sheet.
“Why do I say that? Because yesterday, an electronic diary that I will not name, because it would give you more publicity, absolutely misrepresents this result and wrongly informs the public that we are wrong in testing. It’s not like that. We are very well, we are leaders in Latin America and I have not reviewed the figures at present, but we were 24 or 27 in the world in testing the world per million inhabitants. I ask that e-diary to please review what it publishes, because it misrepresents and mis reports to the public,” he added.
The “electronic diary” referred to by Minister Paris is El Mostrador and a note published last Sunday, entitled “Cecilia Piñera, infectologist and daughter of the President: ‘What has never been achieved is testing and traceability.'” Specifically, the note is based on an extensive interview published by the newspaper La Tercera to the pediatrician and head of the Infectology Unit of the Hospital Exequiel González Cortés.
Faced with the question “What do you see that the government has been wrong in handling the pandemic?” Minister Paris’ colleague replied, “I believe that what has never been achieved very well and that has been complex is the issue of testing and traceability, even though it has been improving greatly and that the ministry is super conscious.” So, of course, the words correspond to a statement by the President’s daughter, and the messenger has nothing to do with this anger from the minister.
