Athletes from Huasco (to the north) and Castro – to the south – arrived at Laguna Avendaño in Quillón to participate in the National Cadet-Minor Canoeing Championship, organized by the Chilean Federation of the specialty.
The Maule Region in turn was represented by delegations from Talca, San Javier and Constitución, who achieved the first place in the general classification.
The Maulina delegation won five gold medals, one silver and five bronze medals.
The best result was obtained by Belén García who took the national title in the C1 category ladies cadets with a time of 5:29.94, followed by Valentina Jara de La Araucanía and Damaris Opazo (bronze) also of maule with a time of 6:42:78.
For her part, in the K1 category ladies cadets, the representative of Constitution, Carolina Silva achieved gold with a time of 4:43″, escorted by Mailén Quezada of the New Imperial Club with 5:33:88.
In males, Jonathan Campos de Talca, also hung the gold medal in the Kayak men’s cadets test marking a time of 4:15:68. He was followed by Benjamin San Martín de La Araucanía with 4:23:12 and Ignacio Velasquez of the Club Nueva Imperial with 4:24:68.
“This sport is a strategic one in our Region. As Mindep-IND we have been doing systematic work with the athletes of Promesas Chile and here are the fruits of their efforts,” highlighted the seremi of sport, Alejandra Ramos Sánchez.
The result also occurs “especially by training many months in their homes by the pandemic or in the water when we have been in phase 2 of the Step by Step Plan”.
According to the plans and programs of the Chilean Canoeing Federation, with this national cadet-minor tournament of Quillón, the first semester of competitions is closed, as a prevention measure for the effects of the pandemic by Covid-19.
