As part of an initiative to strengthen the institutional capacities of Artificial Intelligence in the education sector in Mexico, the Chinese company Huawei announced the collaboration with Mexican universities and the launch of a laboratory called IA LAB Mx.
During the presentation of the project among universities, research centers and companies, involving key directors and researchers, teachers and students raised topics such as how best to solve industrial, social and environmental challenges in the country, as well as facilitate access to high-tech AI.

In union with the Universidad Iberoamericana (Ibero), Huawei issued the IA LAB Mx initiative, which – according to Christopher Córdova, co-founder of the initiative – is a collaborative network distributed among students and researchers from various Mexican institutions, who leverage the laboratory’s computational capacity to promote its research and social and environmental development projects.
In his speech, the Director of Strategic Marketing for Huawei in Latin America, Joaquín Saldaña, stressed the importance of universities and research in Mexico developing projects that have social impact, “that is why we believe in doing things in a different way, to take on challenges and generate opportunities”.
“Artificial Intelligence needs integration and rapprochement from all industries involved. Talent is required from all areas and especially from universities that intend to create a community to grow the use and application of Artificial Intelligence in Mexico to reach the next level,” the management added.
Robin Shi, Product Director of the Cloud & AI Division at Huawei Latin America, also recalled that more than 50 percent of the company’s partners are universities worldwide.
He added that the Artificial Intelligence laboratory at ibero has several Huawei technologies including Atlas 800, an artificial intelligence server in the data center for inference that can support the conventional artificial intelligence framework such as MindSpore, TF, Pytorch, Caffe.
