CAM leader Héctor Llaitul referred to the attack on journalist Iván Núñez and cameraman Esteban Sánchez in Arauco province, ensuring that foresters are responsible.
In an interview with CHV, the CAM spokesman explained the differences they have with foresters. “On the one hand we have the presence of capital, of the effectism at its best, through forestry, of monocultures, of the indiscriminate exploitation of soils, of the predation that this means and all the environmental impact that has brought as a dire consequence,” he said.
On the other hand, there is “we have the Mapuche struggle which is a very legitimate alternative to rebuild the Mapuche world on another basis, other principles and other approaches that are eminently ours, of communities, of peoples”.
In that sense, he said about whether the attack on the TVN team will become a focus of internal quarrels that there are “differences, but in the substrates, deep down, there are not so many discrepancies. So we deny that here they find quarrels, or fights, or fratricidal divisions. That’s false. We have no problems with sister organizations” (Lafkenche and Weichan Auka Mapu).
“They’re going to try to slow us down at any cost, so we’ve given responsibility to the foresters in this episode, because they’re the main ones interested in us not realizing what’s going on in wallmapu,” he said.
