translated from Spanish: Over 80s will be able to go shopping without a travel permit

A new measure to benefit the elderly amid the confinement will begin to govern from this Friday for people over the age of 80, after the difficulties that this group of the population has in accessing the travel permits that are made digitally. In this way, all those who belong to this age segment and are in communes in Step 1 “Quarantine” or Step 2 “Transition” will be able to go to buy essentials, from Monday to Sunday until 10:30 in the morning, without having to carry a virtual police station permit. In the event that they require the support of an accompanying person, the companion must carry the corresponding travel permit. SENAMA’s national director, Octavio Vergara, stressed that “we are aware of the difficulties that exist for people over the age of 80 to have access to the use of new technologies. In this sense, we have been driving adjustments to make the lives of this group of people easier amid the pandemic, even more so, considering that they have been the most responsible group in tying up the health measures promoted by the authorities.” He added that “this permission seeks to facilitate the essential displacement that they require and thus promote their autonomy, contribute to improving their quality of life and mental health in the midst of this health emergency that we face globally.” This initiative is in addition to the permit that is currently available so that those over 75 years of age can go for a walk on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, for a maximum of two hours, between 9:00 and 11:00 or between 16:00 and 18:00 hours, and the special permit for those in charge of the care of adults over 85 years of age , those who no longer need to prove the person’s health status, must extend the permit in person at any police station, with the mere accreditation of identity.
