translated from Spanish: 2021 Insolvency Funds: Mustakis Foundation to inject $1.3 billion into education ventures and innovations

For 10 years Fundación Mustakis has been promoting the undertaking, supporting the economic development of educational innovation projects in Chile. Unesco designated 2021 as the year of the creative economy to drive innovative solutions to global challenges. Online, Mustakis Foundation will allocate more than $1.3 billion over the next 3 years to 21 projects that were amazed by its potential for the integral development of children and young people throughout the national territory. 
Given the overall contingency, socio-emotional health and empirical need for new learning tools, the 2021 Bankruptcy Funds had more than 1000 nominations, nearly 40 shortlisted and 21 winners on the lines: socio-emotional competencies, experiences for a socio-environmental awareness and technological tools for teaching work
To determine the allocation of these funds, the Simon de Cirene Corporation participated in the application process, workshops and pitch days and the assessment of a high-level jury composed of the following figures: 
On the line of Socio-Emotional Competencies Juan Casasus participated, philosopher and doctorate in sociology of education; Amanda Children’s Neuropsychiatist Lawns; Arnaldo Canales Engineer in International Trade, Master in Emotional Intelligence and Education at the Institute of Applied Studies of Spain and Bernardita Jensen, leader of the Integral Development area of Fundación Mustakis.
On the line of Technological Tools andrés Bustamante, psychologist, Master in Business Engineering; Eyal Szewkis, industrial civil engineer with mention in IT, Master of Technology, Innovation and Education from Harvard; Javier Gonzalez, degree and Master in PuC Economics, PHD and MPHil in Economic and Social Development from the University of Cambridge and founder and director of SUMMA; Bernardita Jensen, leader of the Integral Development area of The Mustakis Foundation and Leonardo Leottau, leader in the Mustakis Foundation Platforms and Technologies area.
Finally, for the selection of projects socio-environmental awareness, the jury was composed of Jorge Guerra, a degree in Biology from the University of Havana and a master’s degree in Ecology Sciences from the Universidad Austral de Chile; Eugenio Rengifo, political scientist, public policy master and Executive Director of Friends of the Parks; Martín Andrade, architect and director of the Metropolitan Park of Santiago; Bernardita Jensen, leader of the integral development area of Theakis Foundation and Constance of the Square, in charge of incremental innovation of the Mustakis Foundation.

Through these funds, Mustakis Foundation seeks the creation of synergies and the co-construction of learning communities, through the participation of projects and their leaders in the ‘Mustakis Ecosystem’ to achieve greater impact and scalability of solutions and innovations that are a real contribution for children and young people.
“The delivery of these funds is extremely relevant to Chile’s educational community. The pandemic, economic and social security, have highlighted the need to imagine new, more innovative and creative educational models, which foster new ways of relating and living together, that look at people in their integrality and make them more aware of their cognitive, socio-emotional, bodily and spiritual reality. More than ever, programs and methodologies that unwrever wills and empower the student to find their own path and discover and develop their talents in an increasingly uncertain world,” emphasizes Eduardo Romo, Executive Director of The Mustakis Foundation. 
This call allocated funds to 11 strengthening projects and 10 incubation initiatives in the aforementioned three key areas: socio-emotional competences, experiences to create a socio-environmental awareness and technological tools to facilitate teaching work.

This fund is intended for initiatives that have already been consolidated but need funding to multiply their impact over the next three years. 
Formation of Socio-Emotional Competences:

Live Music Program.

It is a program of the Educational Theatre of the Arts of Panguipulli, focused on musical training and development of socio-emotional skills, through ongoing collaborative work. Beneficiaries will be 8,902 children that make up the public/subsidized school system of the commune of Panguipulli.

Emotional well-being from sport to development.

The Football More Foundation project encourages the use of tools that facilitate the learning of the school community, from sport to development, in Recoleta and Frutillar.

Collaborative Socio-Emotional Learning Network.

The Initiative of Fundación Impulso Docente, seeks to create a Collaborative Network of Socio-Emotional Learning, composed of various educational establishments in Chile – mostly with a high vulnerability rate – to enhance the socio-emotional competencies of its students. 

Experiences for Socio-Environmental Awareness:

Naturalize Program

Initiative of the Ilumina Foundation, which promotes the outdoor learning of Chile’s children’s gardens, transforming the courtyards into educational spaces and fostering the link with nature. The beneficiaries will be the educational communities of 115 establishments in the Metropolitan region and Valparaiso region belonging to urban communes with high vulnerability.

Open classrooms: socio-environmental leadership of children and young people in the contemporary city

The Patio Vivo Foundation initiative seeks to promote the integral development of children and adolescents, in a harmonious relationship with nature, for socio-environmental leadership. It will benefit 8 schools in the cities of Vallenar, Santiago, Valdivia and Llanquihue. In addition, mediators will be working to transfer knowledge to educational teams and leave skills installed, reaching a total of 5.720 Beneficiaries this way.

Academy of Environmental Water Innovation (FUAD Alliance – Yaku – Newenko).

Through the project, Fundación Un Alto en el Desierto, seeks to stimulate the curiosity of students through practical workshops, exhibitions and training activities as citizens aware of the human right to water and their care. more than 3.000 students Coquimbo region will benefit from the initiative. 

Development of skills or tools for teaching work:

CloudLab Virtual School.

Cloud Foundation seeks to bring art closer to everyday life, to generate comprehensive, accessible and inclusive educational processes, through a collaborative digital platform. It will be implemented in public and municipal schools around the national territory.

FicZine, narrative writing didactics for self-recognition in secondary students

The Ciudad Literaria Foundation project seeks to expand its digital creative writing platform, to make it an application capable of supporting teaching work in Chile.

TP Lab: the new functionality of the TP Digital platform.

Chile Foundation strengthen the digital skills of 6,500 teachers Technical Technical Media Education (TP) at the national level.

Design of interdisciplinary projects for the classroom

Through the Colorearte Foundation project, herself will make available to teachers at the national level, a learning experience that allows the integral development of their students.  

This fund is aimed at projects with great impact potential, which have not yet been implemented, and where Fundación Mustakis will support for a year with funding and mentoring co-organized together with the INCUBA program of Enseña Chile. 
Formation of Socio-Emotional Competences:

Inclusive adolescence
Dance project focused on 21 children and young people with disabilities, in which the self-observation, recognition and value of their own body, their disability and their particular mobility are developed.

Living in Chile. Stories of migrant adolescents
Through the project, the Cultural, Artistic and Social Grouping Theatre at Home will present 5 plays in the Yungay neighborhood, created through the eyes of 15 migrant teenagers. Interaction between neighbours will be encouraged and a document will be madeabout the creative process. Around 670 people will benefit from the initiative.

Self-known journal for boys and girls “with all my self”, school edition.

Book of questions that point to self-know-how, measured through self-esteem and self-concept. It will be executed in 9 municipal educational establishments in the communes of Ancud, La Reina and San Bernardo.

Menstruate land

Holistic sex education days will be conducted in vulnerable communes in 5 regions of Chile. It seeks to empower girls and young people on a path of comprehensive self-knowledge and self-assessment, linked to menstrual cyclicity and connection with nature.

Environmental awareness for the care of bees and pollinators in schools nationwide

The Corporation of the National Community of Organic Beekeepers of Chile seeks to train children and young people from 7 different regions on the importance of pollinators and mellifera apis in our biodiversity.

Today’s seeds: future climates for Chile 2030.

Conducting climate change training and research workshops with children and adolescents from the Biobío, Valparaiso and Los Ríos regions.

Playing in the La Campana-Peñuelas Biosphere Reserve.

Through playful educational material, it seeks to link children from the Valparaiso and Metropolitan regions, with the biological and cultural diversity of the La Campana-Peñuelas Biosphere Reserve. Around 12,500 children in the territory covered are expected to benefit.

Children and young people from the Lafquenche territory of Coi-Coi, learn, discover and protect their natural and cultural environment

Installation of an experience educational project to involve a children’s and youth audience in the socio-environmental management of the Lafquenche de Coi-Coi territory, in the commune of Carahue, Araucanía region. 

Development of skills or tools for teaching work:

Links for Life

The Summer Foundation initiative seeks to develop adaptive psychoeducation, to achieve self-management and self-care and promote the mental health care of children and young people from a network of schools present throughout the national territory.

Antis, Puna biodiversity explorers

The project is aimed at the educational community of cordillerana communes of Arica and Parinacota, and seeks to expand and strengthen knowledge of the natural and cultural environment, through the development and implementation of a comprehensive educational product.

Research and creation of an audiovisual series prototype for menstrual education.

It seeks to support teaching and pedagogical work in various contexts for menstrual education. It will be held in Pichidegua and Pedro Aguirre Cerda, reaching approximately 1,653 beneficiaries.
