The international price of maize continues with its upward trend, again, contracts that refer to the production of the 2021/22 cycle achieved new highs in the week, slow planting progress in the US, cold weather and lack of moisture in the corn belt, uncertainty over the production of Brazil’s second harvest (Safrinha) along with inventories at very low levels have supported the market. The July/21 contract closed the week at a price of $225.88 per tonne, which if we take into account the new bases of 38 USD, and a FIX exchange rate of $19.92 results in a price of $5,256 MXN per tonne

The recent update of CONAGUA’s Mexico Drought Monitor indicates that 84% of the national territory has a drought situation. According to the latest bean market report prepared by the Agricultural Markets Advisory Group (GCMA), 4 of the top 5 temporary bean-producing states in the spring-summer cycle are in severe to extreme drought conditions, so there could be an uptick in prices in the coming weeks. The price of Azufrado Higuera de Sinaloa bean registers at the Guadalajara and DF-Iztapalapa stocks prices at levels of 30 and 37 pesos per kilogram, respectively.
