Former Minister of Social Development and current presidential pre-candidate Sebastian Sichel referred to the delivery of government bonds to assist those financially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and, by the way, recalled his participation in the approval of Emergency Family Income.
On the latter he was consulted by radio Cooperative. This is because Sichel criticized the “drip” bond delivery policy. “There is room today, not only to borrow, but to give certainties with state expenses of how long the transfers are going to last and that it’s not just for once,” he said.
There the journalists consulted him for his celebration in Congress after the approval of the IFE, which delivered only 65 thousand pesos.
“What I was celebrating and I say openly and that’s why I say it’s a lie, is that for the first time there was a transfer with certainties of time and not for once, which is what the opposition fought and fought all the time it was a bonus,” he explained.
“Therefore we generated an instrument that remains active to this day and that is the important thing, because we had taken six weeks. It was 65 thousand pesos, I was Minister of Social Development and I created the instruments, the Budget Directorate defines budgets (…) I was celebrating that we had an instrument that allowed transfers to be made to this day, it has been in operation for 12 months and that changed the logic of bonds in the medium term,” he added.
Back to criticism for government aid, Siches added that “people not only need to receive a bonus, but they need to be certain when it arrives in order to project how to withstand the crisis and what happens when we give drip aids, which are the famous bonds, which eight years ago have become fashionable in the State of Chile , what they are eventually generating is an urgency and needs that make Chileans see how they can withdraw funds from other sides to have that certainty.”
