translated from Spanish: AMLO receives COVID vaccine at its morning conference

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador received the COVID vaccine on Tuesday at the end of his morning conference.
López Obrador said the goal of applying the vaccine in public is to make a call to all older adults who have not wanted to receive it out of caution or fear.
“… Tell them that we are sure that there is no risk, no danger, that there are no serious reactions, that we are following up on all the studies that are being done in the world to ensure the safety of people,” he said.

He clarified that receiving the vaccine is not mandatory and that people are free not to accept it.
“However, we have a responsibility to report that it is important to protect ourselves from the pandemic (…) it’s about convincing and persuading, not imposing,” he said.
The dose he received was from AstraZeneca, a formula that was applied in the mayoral Cuauhtémoc, where he resides.
The vaccine was applied by Lieutenant Nurse Medina Vega, who before injecting the dose asked the president routine questions.
After applying, the lieutenant nurse handed the proof of the vaccine to the representative.
“There is no risk, it does not hurt, absolutely nothing happens (to people of the third age), if they did not apply the first dose because they were thinking about it, when they arrive again in the municipality to apply second doses, they can take advantage to receive the vaccine,” López Obrador said.
Changed his mind about the vaccine
On April 5, the president had noted that he would not be vaccinated for the time being as his body generated enough antibodies after recovering from the disease.

López Obrador said he had made that decision after asking for the opinion of various doctors and conducting antibody studies.
However, the next day, the president changed his mind and announced that he would be vaccinated to “dispel doubts” and to serve as an example to those who became infected, and not to wait that long.
On January 24, upon returning to Mexico City after a tour of Nuevo León and San Luis Potosí, López Obrador reported positive for COVID.
His treatment was carried out by the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer and various specialists.
After two weeks of antiviral and deflmatory treatment, the president recovered and resumed face-to-face activities.
