Senator RN Manuel José Ossandón continues to play mystery over his presidential candidacy. While the party already has Mario Desbordes as a candidate, a last-minute break-in of the parliamentarian is not ruled out.
Ossandón, in fact, has been varying his versions on this subject. In an interview with the Ex-Ante medium, he stated that “I am not a candidate, the candidate is Mario Desbordes. I made a different approach, you have to land things.”
“I did a political analysis, which no one capitalizes on. The criticism I make is that neither left nor right has emerged someone who is able to lead hard, who has the pants, the skirt, to do what needs to be done in the country. And well, if I were competitive, I’m available for presidential candidacy, as long as I’m competitive. But I know the candidate is Mario Desbordes, and as long as he’s the party nominee I support him, but are we competitive?” he explained.
However, in an interview with Radio Infinita, Ossandón said he has not closed the door to an eventual candidacy. “I informed the RN president that I have not ruled out a presidential candidacy, I am open. I know the candidate is Mario Desbordes, but I’m not willing to be a candidate either if I mark two or three points, this is not chacota,” he said.
“The candidate is the one who must play it to get Chile forward for everyone. If I go into an internal issue at RN, I have no chance of anything,” he added.
“Whoever leads this process, whether center-left or center-right, should be able to make cross-cutting agreements. We’ve never been called by the government to discuss a project,” he said.
