The relationship between RN and the Government goes through one of its worst moments, with a presidential candidate determined to confront the President and his ministers, in times of extreme crisis, and with a directive that was not impaled in publicly demonstrating its discontent with the Executive’s action in various matters.
The Executive’s decision to appeal to the Constitutional Court (TC) to stop the third withdrawal of 10%, was undoubtedly the last straw. But the feeling of the official shop had been deteriorating for quite some time.
There was an attempted flag in April 2019, when the entire seat of deputies was organized to go to the outskirts of La Moneda and the way to warn the government of its discontent at not feeling listened to.
During the week, Mario Desbordes himself showed one of the store’s biggest resquemores since the administration was installed, targeting the head of second-floor advisers, Cristian Larroulet, noting that he would be better off if he wasn’t there.
And so countless sinsabores that had its highest point when, in meeting with the helms of Chile Vamos, the President ruled out the requests of the store located in Av. Antonio Varas in front of all his peers. This is despite the government’s opening to sponsor its own retirement project, it managed to lower the tension.
“To turn to the TC on this occasion is to renounce politics. The court is called upon to solve legal problems and there is a political problem here, and politicians cannot give up dialogue and agreements,” said Ms. Paulina Núñez, in conversation with El Mercurio. The RN vice president also addressed the party’s differences with the Executive, as well as the coalition’s projection and how they live the presidential scenario internally.
Nunez acknowledges that “the relationship has been complex.” He explained that “when one does not feel represented, he gradually walks away, and indeed there is a sense of disaffection from an important part of the party.” In his view, that needs to be improved, “and we have been available through the delivery of proposals and dialogue.”
“It is clear that our ideas have not been present in the decisions that have been made in La Moneda and I believe that greater presence of RN in the Government is needed, but it is not more charges for one or the other, but a greater presence of our ideas. This dialogue needs to be improved,” she added; for whom there are three concrete things: “to care for the families who have suffered with this pandemic directly, a pension reform that we cannot continue to delay and a tax reform, in which I see cross-cutting support”.
The vice president of RN recalled that “when Chile Vamos was born, we became a coalition that sought to build a more supportive, more people-concerned state. We said we would have a majority vocation, because we are a long-term political project, and we said we would be a coalition that would discuss all decisions and move forward in bulk.” However, he lamented that “none of these conditions are being met today.”
“And that’s why as a coalition we have to go beyond this government. Chile Vamos has a duty to revitalize your project with or without La Moneda. The Government risks moving away permanently from Chile’s project Let’s if it continues to make decisions without listening to the parties or outside of the parent ideas when this coalition was born,” Ms. Nunez said.
It should be mentioned that National Renewal today, despite being the largest electoral party, considers a small representation in government, with only one minister on the political committee and nearly half of portfolio heads compared to the Independent Democratic Union (UDI).
