translated from Spanish: Nacho on the return of Chino & Nacho: “Our music has a genre that is unique to the duo”

“I think I’ll have a busy year,” singer Nacho says when commenting on his projects. And it couldn’t be any less. With the creation of the album that marks the return of the Chinese & Nacho duo, his collaborations within his solo project, his future as a coach in “The Voice” of the Dominican Republic, and many other projects, the musician does not hesitate to make a possible tour in the United States.
“It is a country that is a little closer to the reality that there was,” explains the musician, as due to the current situation of the pandemic in Latin America, the concerts on this side of the continent look farther away. Last week, Nacho released “Boxing Sack” alongside reggaetonero Archangel, a single in which artists talk about toxic and harmful relationships.
“I wanted to make a party theme, rumba,” says the Venezuelan. “But Archangel said no. He wanted a theme that lasted forever, that in 20 years people can still identify with the song and that is heard current at any time,” he says.
“Then we spent a lot of time communicating, talking on Whatsapp, communicating on the phone, sharing one project, he sent me a song, I sent him another, and we had never found the song. And it’s not until I send him Boxing Bag that he really connects to the theme and says, ‘I have quite a few days listening to the song and I love the theme. I think this is the song we should do together.’ and so, finally, it came true,” he says.
The song plays songs like violence in toxic relationships, were you looking to give a message to get out of these links?

yes, well, I think it’s something beyond couple situations, I think in any other situation in life as well. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a boyfriend or girlfriend who does verbal or physical harm, maybe it’s a person you consider your friend, even a family member who tries to dismiss you, who doesn’t believe in you, who underestimates you, that even makes you believe that you’re in an insufficient way. I believe that all this is considered a harm, something beyond the physical, but of the psychological, and you have to give a message for people to get out of that circle. You’re nobody’s punching bag to let yourself be treated badly by someone else and you don’t have to make anyone a punching bag, so you don’t have permission to go treating like you want someone else either.
How did you see the return of Chino&Nacho?

Well, it has been a very hopeful return, we have many plans that we want to fulfill as a duo… It has been exciting to be able to embark on new music and we also understood that together we emanate a particular and beautiful energy, a genre that does not belong to me, nor belongs to it, but it is from the duo, then every time we do something as a duo there is something that sounds like Chino & Nacho and that is very special, because it reminds us of that glorious time of our life.
