The candidate of the National Action Party (PAN) for the chihuahua government, María Eugenia Campos, mocked a journalist during a radio interview on the program Oriente Social, at Ranchera station 89.7.
At the end of his participation in the broadcast of the Social East on Monday, May 3, Maru Campos told the driver Israel Beltrán Montes that they go “several women get up from the station and leave”, alluding to journalist Brenda Chacón, who left the booth of that program last July for being the victim of job harassment.

Following Campos’ comment, the driver and owner of the broadcaster, who has also served as deputy for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), dropped a laugh and noted “I know why he said it.” They both hugged when they said goodbye.
“It was a misunderstanding”
In response to criticism for her comment, Maru Campos said through a video that it had been a misunderstanding, because inside the cockpit “there was a moment of tension, I didn’t know what was going on.”
“It was a tense moment when I didn’t know what was going on when the gentleman told me a couple of times ‘ yes, go. get up’ because my assistant was rushing us, because I had to go to another event. I thought it was playing, but I was serious, and then I got up making this comment, which I did seriously, after all you’ve already lifted several women from here,” she explained.
Finally, he said that “what seemed affectionate was that I was half hanging him, and in between he tried to save the situation and we ended up hugging and ended up giving him a kiss. But well, I want to apologize for this misunderstanding, I understand that as a candidate I couldn’t be angry as I should have been angry, but this has nothing to do with Brenda, my respects for her, my respects for her work.”
“I am a woman who has suffered violence, I know what it means and the last thing I would do would be to mock her,” she said.
During the broadcast of the Minute Question program on July 12, Brenda Chacón left the cockpit after confronting Israel Beltran, who attempted to humiliate her by mocking the use of inclusive language.
The Chihuahuense Institute of Women (Ichmujeres) ruled on the case and noted that the journalist had been repeatedly the victim of misoginal behavior, and applauded her decision to leave the program.

The unit noted that Beltran Montes has made sexist comments, jokes and questions against women, such as when he claimed that one of his home obligations is to have sex with his partner, and denies the causes of the National Women’s Unemployment.
In addition, he denounced the “complicit silence” of the station’s chief information officer, Francisco Javier González Chacón, who is present during the broadcasts and has allowed the driver’s sayings.
