It should be recalled that the Highlands and Chile today announced the establishment of a ‘roadmap’ aimed at advancing the normalization of their diplomatic relations, broken since 1978.

Bolivia’s Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta said at a press conference that progress in diplomatic relations with Chile is with the Andean nation “maintaining its position indispensable for maritime vindication.”

“Maintaining our historical position and indispensable for maritime vindication (…) Bolivia and Chile have been exploring various integration initiatives,” he said, confirming that both countries have agreed to “move forward on a ‘roadmap’ by 2021, which will be developed in bilaterally established instances,” reported Bolivia’s news agency ABI.

Mayta added that dialogue occurs “understanding the need to develop a bilateral relationship with neighbouring countries and in order to initiate mutual trust talks”.

It should be recalled that Bolivia and Chile today announced the establishment of a ‘roadmap’ aimed at advancing the normalization of their diplomatic relations, broken since 1978.

However, Chilean Chancellor Andrés Allamand declared that the conflict over the Silala and Bolivian maritime aspiration will not be part of the agenda between the two countries.
