translated from Spanish: Cancelling NAIM cost the government 113,327 mdp, audit says

The cancellation of the New International Airport of Mexico City (NAICM) cost 113 thousand 327.7 million pesos, the Federation Superior Audit (ASF) reported this Saturday.
The ASF published the minutes of the five working meetings between the Superior Audit of the Federation and the Airport Group of Mexico City S.A. de C.V., in which the cost of the cancellation of the work was calculated.
“(…) it was concluded that the figure for the costs in which NAICM’s construction investment was eeroged and the early termination of contracts as of December 31, 2019 amounts to 113 thousand 327.7 million pesos,” the minutes say.

In a report published on Saturday, the ASF breaks down what should be considered a cancellation fee and which should not.
According to its report, the costs arising from the Application of Resources amount to 127 thousand 89.3 million pesos of which 93 billion pesos correspond to the investment made in the construction of the project and the early termination of the contracts.

It adds that 33 thousand 885.3 million pesos correspond to the “Costs” associated with settlement, repurchase, prepayment, operating expenses and losses on changes and others.
This is to be discounted by 15 thousand 6.4 million pesos of financial income “obtained from investments in the resources captured”.
This gives a total of 112 thousand 82.9 million pesos to which a thousand 244.8 million pesos of “accrued interest payable” as of December 31, 2019, total 113 thousand 327.7 million pesos.
Last February, the ASF determined that cancelling this work would cost at least 331 billion pesos; three times what President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promised, who said the completion of the work would cost only 100 million pesos.
Faced with the figure, the representative said there was an error, prompting the Audit to make a clarification and point out that a “methodological deficiency” in one of its audits led to a higher calculation of the cost of cancellation of Texcoco Airport.

“In the case of the Federation’s Superior Audit, they were wrong in their accounts, and I am glad they have rectified, because imagine that they were charging the airport cancellation 75% more,” the representative said after the ASF was rectified.
Since then, the Audit and the Airport Group of Mexico City have reviewed the final cost of the cancellation.
