translated from Spanish: Chancellor Allamand says they will defend Chile’s position against U.S. insurer claim for 10% annuity withdrawal

Chancellor Andrés Allamand assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will defend Chile’s position against the complaint made by the US business group Ohio, which formally brought before the portfolio its annoyance over the approval of the withdrawal of 10% of the funds from annuities.
“For now it is only appropriate to point out that as is its legal mandate, the chancellery will assume Chile’s defence both in the extra judicial instances and those that have been initiated, as eventually in the courts themselves if the friendly consultations do not come to fruition,” he said.
“Therefore, we will defend Chile’s position in both instances. It does not correspond at this minute, where friendly consultations are beginning to begin and where there may be a proper judicial dispute later on, anticipating positions beyond what I point out. The chancellery in the face of this claim will defend the country’s interest accordingly,” he added.
In that line, Allamand referred to whether other claims from other companies on this issue have arrived. “For now, there has only been one company that has made this claim, which is otherwise the treaty we have with the U.S..”.
“From the point of view of processing, a period of 6 months of friendly consultations opens. If these consultations do not succeed, the company will have the possibility to resort to international bodies, specifically ciadi,” he explained.
