The presidential candidate of National Renewal, Mario Desbordes, referred this Friday to the public support expressed by Senator RN Manuel José Ossandón to the candidate for regional government, Claudio Orrego (DC), leaving behind the candidate of his coalition, Catalina Parot (Evópoli).
In conversation with Radio Duna, Desbordes assured that he does not share Ossandón’s statements “at all. I think Catalina Parot is a tremendous candidate and she’s going to be a very good governor. She’s a woman I’ve known for many years now.”
Desbordes added that while Ossandón clarified his sayings, suring that “he wanted to prevent the vows from going to Pablo Maltese. It’s true, but look, I think we’re probably going to have a run-off. I hope Catherine wins in the first round, but if not, there’s a run-lap, and chances are she’s inside Orrego and Catalina. And so there I imagine that Ossandón, no longer having Maltese’ argument will square with the right one because this is not a mandatory organization, is a voluntary matter. When you’re in coalition, you share these criteria. I respect Orrego very much, I have a lot of respect for him. I have a good relationship with him, but I think Catalina is a better candidate.”
“I have no explanation. No, I can’t find the explanation. No, I can’t find it to be a good argument for Maltese. When I talked to him, I’ll ask him to explain what’s going on,” he added.
On whether Ossandón will have any punishment for his support for the opposition candidate, Desbordes explained that “there is an express sanction in the statute. But don’t stray from the truth that this minute is not what we have to worry about. I’m going to go with Catalina tomorrow to vote. It’s supporting one who stepped forward when we were without a candidate. Orrego has been working his candidacy for a long time, was mayor (…) She’s making a gigantic effort representing us in the country and she’s really a very good candidate.”
