Mexico City.- Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), president of Mexico, said that the Presidential Plane, “José María Morelos y Pavón”, has not been sold because potential buyers are ashamed to acquire an aircraft with so much luxury. President Andrés Manuel was questioned about the Presidential Plane and the alleged use of the aircraft to transport Mexican athletes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, a competition that was postponed a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

AMLO denied that the plane would be used to take Olympic athletes to Japan this summer, recalling that the Boeing TP-01 is not used and will not be used by Mexican authorities, as it remains on international sale. “The plane is not used and is not going to be used what we want is to sell it but there is no one who buys it because it is so luxurious, so luxurious that they are sorry that it is known that someone owns such an airplane, only, and it is a shame, that here they came up with the thought of buying a plane with so much luxury” , AMLO said. The president reiterated that the Government of Mexico continues to make efforts to sell it, one of them was to ask for help from the United Nations (UN), to have a rapprochement with other government that are interested in buying the plane acquired in the administration of Felipe Calderón and used during the six-year term of Enrique Peña Nieto.One of the campaign proposals in 2018 of Andrés Manuel was to sell the Presidential Plane , and despite having held a national raffle to contribute to the payment of the aircraft, the Government of Mexico has not been able to sell it or settle the bill by airplane. The plane is kept between California and Mexico, because it is given maintenance in the United States, however AMLO said that it continues to save even having the plane stopped, despite the amounts that are paid for the service.
