translated from Spanish: Minsal launches special vaccination campaign focused on 800 thousand Chileans aged 23 to 49 years behind in the process

The Ministry of Health announced today the launch of a special vaccination campaign for the group of people over 23 years old, a measure that will apply during the next week and will address 800 thousand people in order to reach 80% of the target population.
In relation to the initiative, the undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, said that although it is a group of healthy people, they have not been vaccinated because, among other reasons, they have a lower perception of risk. “Today we know that 46% of people who are hospitalized are in this age range, between the ages of 23 and 49. We also know that 45% of people who are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit are in this range. That’s why we’re doing this campaign so that those people who may have been vaccinated haven’t done so so far,” Daza said.
Regarding the importance of this age group to reach 80% vaccination, the undersecretariat Daza added that there are about 800 thousand people between 23 and 49 years old who have not been inoculated to date. In this sense, he stressed that “it is important that they are vaccinated because we know that as long as we vaccinate ourselves we will all be able to continue protecting ourselves. We want to decrease those people who are mainly being admitted to hospitalizations and intensive care units.”
As for the vaccination schedule announced for next week, the health authority added that in addition to the laggards over 23 years of age, during Thursday and Friday people of 22 years will be inoculated. Finally, during the weekend, stragglers over the age of 22, pregnant women and second doses will be vaccinated.
