translated from Spanish: Deputy Coloma (UDI) asks Piñera to postpone European tour: “What we need is a President who is in Chile facing the pandemic”

Deputy Juan Antonio Coloma (UDI) referred to the upcoming presidential tour of President Sebastian Pinera, who will visit – as of June 22 – different countries in Europe to “promote the modernization of the free trade agreement between Chile and the European Union,” they said from the Foreign Ministry. In this regard, Coloma asked the president to stay in the country to “face the pandemic.”
“I believe that in times of pandemic what we need, more strongly than ever, is a president who is in Chile facing the pandemic,” the pro-government congressman said.
Along these lines, Coloma asked Piñera to postpone his tour, at least until covid-19 infections decrease.
“I think that at least until the end of this month it would be ideal for the president to postpone this trip,” the UDI lawmaker said.
According to a communique issued by the Foreign Ministry, the tour includes visits and working meetings with Pope Francis; the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson; the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez; King Philip VI; and The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, as well as various United Nations officials in Geneva.
