Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of Joaquin “el Chapo” Guzman, pleaded guilty in the United States to drug trafficking and money laundering.
Coronel, 31, was arrested at an international airport near Washington on Feb. 22 on suspicion of being involved in her husband’s drug trafficking business. She has been detained ever since.
She is accused of participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for import into the United States.

“Colonel Aispuro is charged in a criminal complaint with one count of conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, five kilograms or more of cocaine, 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana, and 500 grams or more of methamphetamine for illegal importation into the U.S.,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
In addition, he is accused of having intervened in guzman Loera’s escape plans from the maximum security prison of the Altiplano, on July 11, 2015.
According to the newspaper Milenio, the hearing lasted a little more than an hour and she was told that she could be sentenced to life imprisonment, so on September 15 her sentence will be read; however, the date could be changed.
