“They have been illegally deprived of liberty by agents of the State Attorney General’s Office, when they voluntarily came as witnesses in the investigation file, in order to assist, with the clarification of the facts,” the city council said in a statement.

Municipality accuses political persecution
The municipality of Progreso de Obregón said that 50 members of the Hidalgo Public Security Secretariat stripped the municipality of weapons to take control of security in the town.

“The municipal government strongly reproaches the actions taken by the state authorities, in which a political persecution is evident,” he said.
