“Maya y los tres,” the new Netflix animated film that will be directed by Jorge R. Gutiérrez (“The Book of Life”) is coming. It will arrive on screen in the spring and will feature music by Gustavo Santaolalla and Tim Davies.La story places us in a fantasy world full of magic, and follows a Mesoamerican-inspired warrior princess who embarks on an epic quest to fulfill an ancestral prophecy and save humanity from the vengeful gods of the underworld.

“As a lifelong lover of fantasy films from around the world and deeply inspired by glorious Mesoamerican art and exhibits at the National Museum of Anthropology in my native Mexico City, I created Maya as our own fiercely rebellious eagle warrior princess,” the director said in a press release. She then continued: “Our young heroine is lovingly inspired by the real Mexican warrior women of my life: my mother, my sister and my eternal muse, my wife. I can’t wait for audiences of all ages around the world to enjoy Maya and all three in their fun, poignant and epic quest to defeat the gods of the underworld and save their magical world. For all who have loved The Tiger and The Book of Life, a spicy sweet awaits you!”
