The action was carried out by the Environmental Control Brigade (BCA), under the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation. It all began when Tincha’s caregivers became aware that the best quality of life for her was to develop in nature and not as a domestic animal. For this reason, the family contacted the BCA with the aim of returning the woodpecker to the wild ecosystem in a careful and suffering-free manner.

In this way, the BCA retired tincha and took her immediately to Tekove Mymba, a natural place located in Colón, Entre Ríos. The area is specially designed so that the animals that spent most of their life in captivity can live in a habitat as close as possible to that of their origin.

As reported by the BCA in a statement, the animal is in the process of adaptation waiting for, once the quarantine period to which it will be subjected, to be released definitively.

“From what happened with Tincha, the population is reminded that the specimens of wildlife should not be kept in private homes,” they warned from Ambiente.

“To this end, it is recalled that the Ministry of Environment promotes the voluntary surrender of this type of animals so that they can have a better quality of life,” they added and recalled that: “In case of any doubt or query, contact the BCA through the email brigada@ambiente.gob.ar,” the statement concludes.
