Mexico.- At the beginning of the vaccination campaign against covid-19 for adults around the world, many lactating women found themselves in the dilemma of whether to be vaccinated or not, given the lack of clinical data aimed at them as a population group. Currently, preliminary studies conducted at the University of San Francisco, California, have determined that the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine is not transmitted to babies’ breast milk, showing this and other promising results for many breastfeeding mothers.

Milk is safe
A group of researchers led by Yarden Golan, from the University of San Francisco, has examined nursing mothers immunized with vaccines manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, and in the process have not found residues of vaccines in breast milk, however, in another of their studies they have detected in breast milk the antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 produced by mothers as an immune response to vaccination , determining for this reason that the vaccines studied are safe for nursing babies. Unlike other vaccines, vaccines for COVID-19 do not cause active infection, as they do not contain attenuated viruses, but inactive ones or only traces of RNA (ribonucleic acid).
