The Guelaguetza Muxe is for its organizers a way for the Muxe community and diverse sex in Mexico to celebrate and promote freedom of gender expression, as well as combat discrimination and foster inclusion. This installment to be held in 2021 will present the Guelaguetza event as a dance show, as well as a space for conversations and other cultural spaces.
For this reason, the Cultural Week of Muxeidad was born, which will be divided into four parts, the first of them with the virtual Verbena Muxe, for the promotion and sale of oaxacan handicrafts, with a sample of istmeños textiles and a virtual catwalk. The second part will consist of the Cultural Forum of Muxeidad, with conversations by various personalities, such as Elvis Guerra, craftsman and muxe poet; Martha Toledo, Singer Istmeña; and Pilar Salina, founder of the Association of ‘Las Auténticos Muxes radicadas en la Ciudad de México’. Continuing with this program, the third part will offer the live transmission of the popular Guelaguetza Muxe from the Hellenic theater through various social networks. In this, some of the delegations will be presented in person from the theater for the broadcast, and others will deliver pre-recorded material. This event will be hosted by Mauricio Castillo, MariSilvia Marín Pinea, known as ‘La Teca de Oro’, and the renowned Drag artist, Roberto Cabral. It will also have special guests representing different regions of Oaxaca, such as the group Pestañas Locas and México de Colores.Read more: Great celebration for Gay Pride in Biblioteca Morelos de Los MochisThe singer Patricia Alcaraz, the Banda Donaji and a choral ensemble will have interventions in this celebration of the Guelaguetza Muxe to liven up the event , including also a special issue in memory of those who have died due to Covid-19.To conclude the Cultural Week of Muxeidad, in the fourth stage will be presented the Contest God Centéotl of the Guelaguetza Muxe 2021.With information from El Universal.
