translated from Spanish: “Zoom to your rights”, the contest that invites you to sing for racial diversity

Save the Children’s Civil Society Support Program and the Civil Association Chicos.net launch the “Zoom to Your Rights” contest. Registration is now open and you can participate until September 14th here. Under the slogan “Let’s sing for racial diversity,” this year’s proposal is that they can identify a situation of racial discrimination that concerns and/or affects them and can express themselves to promote change in their community, their country and in the world. Participation will be through a videotaped song that seeks to promote values such as equity, respect for diversity and a more inclusive world. To boost participation, Peruvian singer, songwriter and activist Renata Flores recorded a special video.

“We know that racism and inequity start from childhood. Indigenous and Afro-descendant children in Latin America experience systemic discrimination on a daily basis, affecting all aspects of their lives. Through this contest we seek to amplify the voices of children so that they are protagonists of change by promoting equity and equal opportunities for all,” said Victoria Ward, Save the Children Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, in a press release. The winners will receive different prizes, such as wireless headphones, speakers, microphones and sound equipment. There will also be special mention for the winning school and/or community project. The jury that will evaluate the videos is composed of: Luis Pedernera (Member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child), Esmeralda Arosemena de Troitiño (Commissioner and Rapporteur on the Rights of the Child of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Najat Maalla M’Jid (Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on violence against children). Also by David Wright (Global Chief Operating Officer, Save the Children International); Marcela Czarny (Director of the Civil Association Chicos.net); Abel Aronátegui (Coordinator of Culture of the Central American Educational and Cultural Coordination and Executive Director of the Contra-Peso Foundation) and Renata Flores (Peruvian singer, composer and activist).
