translated from Spanish: “Socialists for Boric”: former PS members back FA candidacy and say it is capable of articulating a “large majority”

Figures related to the Socialist Party, including former members, today backed the presidential candidacy of the Broad Front, Gabriel Boric and urged the “independent socialist world” to support the Social Convergence deputy ahead of the July 18 primaries.
“We recognize in Gabriel Boric Font a solid, prepared and representative leadership of the new socialist generations. Someone with the ability to connect the best of the socialist tradition with the new sensibilities and political options that have emerged in recent years,” they said in a statement, calling themselves “Socialists for Boric.”
“A bridge between generations. Someone capable of articulating, from the left, a broad majority for the structural changes that Chile requires,” they added.
Along these lines, they pointed out that “we need a government and a parliament that supports the constituent process and that develops a program to overcome the serious social, economic and health crisis that we are experiencing, that supports families with universal social policies, reactivates the economy, generates decent jobs and recognizes and guarantees social rights.”
“Those of us who subscribe to this declaration recognize ourselves as part of allendista history and tradition and Chilean Socialism. We are working today to update its ideology and rebuild that space or socialist side within a plural left,” they added.
Among the signatories are figures from the socialist militancy, such as Fernando Atria, Marcelo Díaz (both militants of parties of the Broad Front), Salvador Millaleo, Lautaro Videla, among others.
