There is no doubt that the big winner of the night was the candidate of the Broad Front, Gabriel Boric. The unexpected result of the former student leader and deputy for Magallanes, who with just over a million votes managed to sweep in all regions of the country, not only leaves him on a very good footing to “continue” in a frantic presidential race that begins to unfold this Monday and for which only four months remain , but it shows that in its broad vote the most moderate sectors were already present, progressivism, so that the bridges were tended to continue growing towards the center left. And this is not counting that as a pact, I approve Dignity surpassed by more than four hundred thousand votes Chile Vamos, which unlike the left in all its range, played all its cards.
“We thought we were dead, we were given for dead, but we woke up and grew up.” That is the summary made by a leader of the Broad Front before the advantageous results of Gabriel Boric in the primary of A aprueba Dignidad, despite the fact that hours before the results, several acknowledged that Daniel Jadue still had an advantage over the deputy of Social Convergence, but much narrower than a month ago.
That is why there was surprise with more than 60% of boric’s votes, also with a turnout that exceeded one million 600 thousand votes in the primary of that sector, which gives greater legitimacy to the process, and gives more confidence in a good result in November. “We’ve done a campaign that exceeded all the expectations that everyone had,” Boric said in his speech. The reasons? Gabriel Boric entered the competition late, given the lack of definition of Beatriz Sánchez, in a scenario where Jadue was the natural favorite according to the polls.
On the other hand, in the Communist Party there was confidence that the mayor of Recoleta would surpass his fellow member. Even before the results, the self-criticism of the party was scarce, even in recent weeks where Jadue had several stumbles, such as debates. However, in the mayor’s recognition of Boric’s triumph – which took about half an hour – he was accompanied by one of the first self-criticisms, and with a more summoning tone than the last speeches of the PC’s letter.
“It’s not that the Coalition came out to vote in our primary, it’s not that the right has come out to vote in our primary; they are our own weaknesses, because until just six months ago those of us who are here treated each other as adversaries between us and were not united,” Jadue said of the results.
