translated from Spanish: Only 38% of intensive care inpatients are due to COVID

The advance of vaccination and the decrease in coronavirus cases meant that currently only 38% of patients admitted to public and private intensive care across the country are in that condition due to COVID-19. This is a survey carried out by the Argentine Society of Intensive Care (SATI), which showed a total bed occupancy of 78% throughout the country. The study, which consists of a survey that is sent to public and private health centers whose responses are voluntary, involved 122 ICUs with a total of 2,096 beds.
As of July 30, the institutions that responded had an average occupancy of 78% (1618), with Covid-19 positive being 38% (799); of these, 74% (594) required Mechanical Respiratory Assistance (MRA) and 9% (78) high-flow cannuulae (CAFO). The average age of coronavirus patients requiring respiratory support was 53 years, and 48 years for those who did not need MRA. The latest report from the Ministry of Health, which analyzes bed occupancy, showed that there are 3,913 people hospitalized for COVID in intensive care and the percentage of ICU bed occupancy nationwide for all pathologies is 54.2%.

The SATI report highlights that there was a slight increase in the occupancy of Non-Covid-19 beds nationwide.” At the beginning of May, when the second wave was advancing and putting at risk therapies throughout the country, SATI warned of a health collapse that ended up being avoided, although many citizens had to wait a significant time for a bed, which led to the death of many.
