Latin America is a region exposed to disaster risk. Chile, for its part, is an emergency laboratory that means that our country is always facing an emergency of a catastrophic nature. The geographical characteristics combined with a high degree of vulnerability and the adverse effects produced by the current climate change, place the American countries at a high risk of impact from disasters.
In this context of vulnerability, it is women who respond and face these challenges from the most fragile and difficult angles. Women are the ones who lead the family’s survival and resilience action in the face of disaster risks and climate change and are the ones who best aquilatan this experience. In an emergency, women and men do not have the same vulnerabilities, the same priorities and the same resilience and therefore a crisis does not reach them, nor does it impact them in the same way. Culture, sex, age, ethnicity, social class, religion, sexual identity, and much more, determine the performance and the scenario in which women are located.
In this pandemic that the whole world is experiencing and that Chile is experiencing in a dizzying way, where public policies are not so clear and measures at first glance are changing and contradictory. Covid-19 can be defeated if we are able to establish a system of measures that talk to each other and help us live with or live with the risk.
Thinking that much of the pollution is occurring in close contact, in homes where the construction has precariousness and has a number of meters that I could adjective as unworthy. It is not understood how no progress is made in aggressive policies that strongly consider the home, where lucid policies are passed to move forward with safe and appropriate practices for the people. At least until today there are no known or aggressive teaching and information programs where they are led by women. Who generally gives meaning to the nucleus constituted by the family, who directs and establishes the scopes with great courage and skill, who tutors in a great way to children, siblings, parents and relatives. A work that we know about him, always present but never recognized.
Women are those who for years are heads of independent household who could be performing in another job, their ability and strength has allowed them to perform professionally and carry out the direction of the family.
There is a conviction that to have achievements against COVID-19 you must have a generalized change of behavior and it is not only about having vaccines, it consists of living with the risk in an appropriate way, where each of us assumes our responsibility and develops our lives in a mature and responsible way considering the new realities, and there is no doubt that this complex mission from the basic cell called the family corresponds to it due to its characteristics and possibility of leading women by intelligence, sensitivity and multiple capacities.
