translated from Spanish: Judge Reyes Rodríguez resigns as president of the Electoral Tribunal; asks to create commission in the face of internal crisis

Judge Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón resigned from the Presidency of the Electoral Tribunal after five of his colleagues appointed him to the post after removing Jose Luis Vargas.
In a letter, the judge declined to direct the TEPJF, so that there would be a transparent process involving all members of the Superior Chamber.
“The presidency has to be born of the broad consensus of those who make up the court, and of a process that includes the voices of all the judges who make up the plenary. Unfortunately this did not happen in the last session,” he explained.

Five days after taking office, and after meeting with his colleagues and the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Reyes Mondragon called for reconciliation.

He also called for the creation of an internal commission that could resolve the internal crisis, since he considered that part of the conflicts of the Eelectoral Court are associated with the lack of clear rules in administration and decision-making.
“What I propose is the creation of an institutional reconstruction commission that will have as its objective a review of the processes and the issuance of clear rules regarding the internal government of the court, that strengthens the rules of collegiality and, above all, that contributes to strengthening judicial independence, aligning our objectives with the recent judicial reform,” he said.
Hours earlier, Judge Jose Luis Vargas proposed to the other members of the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation a meeting to “define a legal and political solution” to the situation facing the TEPJF.
This, after the meeting he held with the minister president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Arturo Zaldivar.
