The General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) approved the agreement establishing an amount of 5,821,851,704 pesos as public funding for national political parties in 2022.
The financing was calculated in accordance with the formula established in article 41 of the Constitution.
The budget for next year’s exercise of the political parties is divided into 5,543,960,204 pesos for permanent ordinary activities; 166 million 318 thousand 806 pesos for specific activities; 110 million 879 thousand 204 pesos for postal franchise and 693 thousand 490 pesos for telegraphic franchise.
In a session, the president of the Institute, Lorenzo Cordova, said that the Constitution establishes a precise formula to calculate the amount of public funding for the parties, the factors that should be used in it and that the INE should only apply it.
“This amount and the way in which it is calculated cannot be debated or negotiated, either for this authority or for the Chamber of Deputies, although the latter has the exclusive power to determine the annual budget of the federation.
“It is not an amount that the INE arbitrarily defines. The INE is only an applicator of an agreed formula, established, instituted since the Constitution,” he said.

Cordova said that the distribution of resources by political party, according to the percentages established by the Constitution, will be done once the Electoral Tribunal resolves the challenges of the past electoral process to determine which political institutes will be maintained for next year.
He reiterated the need for a debate on the financing model of the policy “free of revenge, of philosophies and phobias, and of lies that contaminate and distort the public conversation,” given the economic situation that the country is going through.
for his part, the Executive Director of Prerogatives and Political Parties, Patricio Ballados, said that, as in previous processes, only the total amount of the prerogatives will be considered, since challenges are pending on the results of the Federal Electoral Process 2020-2021.
He explained that the definition of the total stock market will finally be distributed among the parties with national registration according to the constitutional arithmetic formula contemplated by the Electoral Register and the Measurement and Updating Unit (UMA) for the calculation of the final figure.
