The National Journalism award and academic of the University of Chile, Faride Zerán, is one of the three names that were presented by the mayor of Santiago Irací Hassler as new members of the board of directors of the Municipal Theater of Santiago.
Zerán joins the body along with Alfredo Saint Jean Donic – artistic director and cultural manager – and former minister Máximo Pacheco Matte.
“It is a diverse board of directors, with a great track record around the arts and cultures, which has the characteristics we need to move forward and get out of these complex times for culture in our country,” said Mayor Irací Hassler.
In his Twitter, Zerán highlighted his incorporation to the board, noting “All my support to the mayor @iraciHassler in her decision to promote and democratize culture in Santiago. The Municipal Theatre is a cultural icon whose challenge is to incorporate new generations in their demand for rights and access to all cultural manifestations”.
The new members will be integrated into the board of directors formed by the Cultural Manager, María Cecilia Guzmán (representing the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage), the Executive Director of the Cultural Foundation of Providencia, Jorge Andrés González (representing the three contributing Municipalities: Las Condes, Providencia and Vitacura). Along with this, the mayor of Santiago ratified Juan Manuel Santa Cruz in his position.
The community leader yesterday presided over the first meeting of the board of directors of the Cultural Corporation of the Illustrious Municipality of Santiago, which establishes the guidelines of the Municipal Theater of Santiago, an instance where the administration — led by the general director, Carmen Gloria Larenas, and the general manager, Leonardo Pozo — delivered information on the budget deficit that reaches at least 5,000 million pesos.
One of the main objectives of the new administration is to open the Municipal Theater of Santiago to the neighborhoods, communities, educational centers of the commune and the arts that emerge, along with making sustained progress in reducing the financial deficit with an efficient management model, the municipality said.
