“You feel, you feel, Yasna president,” is the cry that was heard in the Plaza de Armas of Vallenar, after the triumph of the president of the Senate in the citizen consultation of Constituent Unity was known.
The presidential standard-bearer of the Christian Democracy, who won by a large majority against Paula Narvaez (PS) and Carlos Maldonado (PR), issued a victory speech from the nerve center of her native commune. In the Atacama Region, Provoste thanked his voters and noted that “today we are on this path after having overcome several obstacles.”
“Neighbors,” he said, “it has been a very intense road, brief, but marked with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We are here in our square and being here in Vallenar is no accident,” he added, “this has been the place and the streets where we have traveled for so many years.”
For the now presidential candidate of Constituent Unity the sign of her candidacy is very clear and, from the Province of Huasco, she said that “we are going to open La Moneda to the Chile of veranad, to that of the regions, of the communities, of the rural world. That is our commitment,” he added, “that we make decisive progress in making our country a country that leaves aside exclusions and that is committed to a dignified treatment of society.”
“We have stood up,” Provoste emphasized, reiterating his thanks “to all those who have overcome all barriers to participate in this consultation. Today what we want is to thank the testimony of so many people who despite the climatic conditions to cast their vote thought about the transformations that our country requires.
The current president of the Senate finally ruled that “Chile will be a plurinational state. This is the Chile that begins with the will of millions of Chileans.”
And he closed by pointing out that “we have to be able to offer a better country than to move from one Sebastian to another, we want to advance in the changes that the country requires but with governability. From Vallenar, she concluded, we began the work as a presidential candidate and we will do so by touring each of the communes of our country because that is our commitment to real Chile. We are here starting this new stage with our neighbors to say we are working for a better destiny for our country.”
