Olga Sanchez Cordero will leave the Interior Secretariat (Segob) to return to the Senate of the Republic and chair the Board of Directors.
The new interior secretary will be the current governor of Tabasco, Adán Augusto López, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said.
“I ask my countrymen to allow Adam to come and help me to finish consolidating the transformation process, consummating the transformation,” he said.
The governor reported that today he will request his license and if the Chamber of Deputies approves it, he will be in a position to join the secretariat.
“It is a commitment that I accept, I will put all my effort, all my effort, all my time to contribute to consolidating the Fourth Transformation,” he said.
The president recognized the career of Olga Sánchez Cordero; he described her as an exemplary, integrated and honest woman.
“She has helped me a lot, a lot, I believe her, she has been loyal, she has been with us in this commitment that we have to achieve a better society, to transform the country, but now, halfway through, she tells me ‘I want to join the Senate, I want to be in the Senate of the Republic’ and she has been released, I thank her very much and she is going to be as a senator,” President López Obrador said in a video.
Sánchez Cordero thanked her for her confidence in having chosen her as interior secretary and reiterated her commitment so that, from the Senate, contribute in the legislative field, in consolidating the transformation of Mexico.
Previously, Ricardo Monreal reported that Sánchez Cordero presented her reinstatement as senator owner.

The coordinator of the Morena bloc also said that there is consensus to propose that Sanchez Cordero preside over the Senate.
“I have spoken with the candidates to chair the Board of Directors, and with the senators of the Parliamentary Group, to propose Dr. Olga Sánchez Cordero as president of the Senate for the first year of the LXV Legislature,” he said.
Until now, Olga Sánchez Codero’s seat was occupied by Jesusa Rodríguez.
During the morning, Sánchez Cordero still led the “Meeting of governors, federal and local deputies, municipal presidents and elected mayors in 2021,” organized by Inmujeres.

On November 27, 2018, the plenary of the Senate of the Republic approved the license to separate from her legislative functions, for an indefinite period, to the then senator of Morena, Olga Sánchez Cordero Dávila.
The former minister assumed the Interior Secretariat from the beginning of the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
