The coordinator of the PAN senators, Julen Rementería, offered a public apology for his rapprochement with Santiago Abascal, leader of Spain’s far-right Vox party. He also received a boost from the entire PAN caucus, which ratified him as its leader.
“What happened on Thursday because of the conditions in which it occurred, was a mistake, and lent itself to interpretations that do not correspond to the ideals and principles and ideals of the PAN, much less was it an alliance, that would be in his case an attribution of the leadership of the party.
“I offer an apology if I offended or hurt my fellow senators, our party or someone in society, for the way in which it was communicated, I have already taken the pertinent decisions to correct it,” Rementería said Tuesday in a conference, accompanied by the entire PAN caucus.

On September 2, the PAN parliamentary group in the Senate signed an alliance with vox party president Santiago Abascal against “the advance of communism.”
The legislators signed the document named “Madrid Charter”, in which they say they unite in defense of freedom, democracy and private property.

However, days later the National Political Commission of the National Action Party (PAN) assured that they do not have any type of institutional relationship with the Vox party and that the signing of the “Madrid Charter” was carried out by some PAN militants “in a personal capacity and without the representation” of the party.
Rementería said that the PAN has been supporting women, freedoms, individual guarantees, the rights of migrants and private property for decades.
He said that they do not seek to polarize, but that from the PAN they will work together in the defense of democracy, freedoms, inclusion and the rule of law.

Senator María Guadalupe Saldaña Cisneros, was in charge of giving the message of unity of the caucus and support for its leader.
“We fully support our colleague Julen Rementería as our coordinator in the caucus, we express our confidence in the direction of the work of the parliamentary group,” he said.
Rementería said that he discussed the issue with the comrades of the PAN caucus and that in the future he will carefully assess what kind of events to hold “and that are prudent with the principles of the PAN.”
