The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, reported on 489 new cases of Covid-19 in Chile, with a positivity of 0.87% in the last 24 hours nationwide, “with which we completed a week with positivity of PCR tests under 1% throughout the country.”
He added that “the positivity of cases by antigen test in the last 24 hours is 0.8% and the average of the last 7 days is also 0.8%.”
And he added that “the variation of new confirmed cases at the national level is -11% and -29% for the comparison of 7 and 14 days respectively. 11 regions decrease their new cases in the last 7 days and 13 in the last 14.”
The head of Minsal revealed that of the 489 new cases, 13% are diagnosed by antigen test, 29% originate from active case finding (BAC) and 32% of those reported are asymptomatic.
The Metropolitan Region presents 13% by antigen, 21% by BAC and 24% of reported cases are asymptomatic.
According to sampling, the regions with the highest positivity are Arica and Parinacota, Antofagasta, Metropolitana and O’Higgins.
Meanwhile, the region of Arica and Parinacota registers the highest incidence rate at the country level per 100 thousand inhabitants, followed by the regions of Atacama, Antofagasta and Tarapacá.
23 new deaths
According to today’s report, of the 489 new cases of Covid-19, 310 correspond to symptomatic people and 146 have no symptoms. In addition, there were 33 positive PCR tests that were not reported.
The total number of people who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the country reaches 1,643,630. Of that total, 3,166 patients are in the active stage. The recovered cases are 1,600,771.
As for the deaths, according to the information provided by the DEIS, in the last 24 hours there were 23 deaths due to causes associated with Covid-19. The total number of deaths in the country is 37,201.
To date, 513 people are hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, of which 371 are supported by mechanical ventilation. In relation to the Integrated Health Network, there is a total of 477 critical beds available for the patient who requires it, regardless of the region where he or she is.
Regarding the Laboratory Network and diagnostic capacity, yesterday the results of 48,854 PCR tests and antigen tests were reported, reaching to date a total of 20,103,264 analyzed nationwide. The positivity for the last 24 hours at the country level is 0.87% and in the Metropolitan Region it is 1%.
With respect to the Health Residences, there are 106 lodging facilities, with 8,895 total beds. The actual occupancy nationwide is 43%, leaving a total of 3,980 beds available to be used.

Héctor Muñoz, seremi of Health of the Biobío, confirmed that the cases in the region increased to 32. “We have some that are from San Pedro, Mulchén and other communes, but we are analyzing the data. Obviously the circulation of the Delta variant has reached the region,” he told La Estrella de Concepción.
However, he stressed that “we have a greater detection capacity as well, because we are detecting, not only with genomic sequencing, but also with variant PCR, that we have the result in 24 hours. That variant PCR lets us know if it is Gamma, Delta and immediately transforms into a probable Delta, that we work just like a Delta. With that testing capability we will find more Delta variants.”
In the Los Ríos Region, the head of Epidemiology of the regional Health Seremi, Carol Aracena, reported that there are eleven new people infected with Delta. According to El Austral, seven of them were sent from the Institute of Public Health (ISP), the body that was in charge of the analyzes, and four by the laboratory of the Austral University of Chile, Austral-Omics.
“In this way, fifteen confirmed cases with the Delta variant have been identified in Los Ríos (here the previous ones are added) and there are still 21 probable cases. Those 36 cases in total, among the confirmed and probable infections of Delta variant, are distributed only in the communes of Valdivia (23), Mariquina (10) and Panguipulli (3),” Aracena explained.
He added that “all cases confirmed to Delta variant are distributed in five bRotes: In the commune of Mariquina there is an outbreak of 10 cases with a family link that is still active. In the commune of Valdivia there are three outbreaks involving 22 people and one isolated case, of which two outbreaks are closed, having completed all their respective quarantines and one active outbreak. For its part, in the commune of Panguipulli there is an outbreak involving two probable cases Delta, which is currently active. ”
However, the Ministry of Health insisted on compliance with self-care measures to avoid contagion, such as the correct use of the mask, hand washing, physical distancing and ventilation of spaces.
